In theory yes, Yvonne. If you Click on the "Profile" button at the top and then "Edit Profile" after that there is a tab "Notifications" where you can check the appropriate box to recieve notifications as required.
I have just made changes to my own and will be interested to see if it works. I have the site forum on a tab on my internet page so it is on and I periodically check to see if any entries have been made. There is also a "Shout Box" which I can enable if you think it would be useful.
Great idea I like the idea of a flash message on screen that says folk are on the forum maybe it would allow others to join in and feel less like a visitor to an empty house.

Let us know if it works for you I don't seem to have had any notifications and I ticked all the boxes. Maybe there is a bug somewhere. See how you get on if no joy I'll try the proboards support team.
Fixed nnow working. Definatley recommended if you want to stay with it.
