Hi All!!
Just wanted to see what information might be out there on current pain management good and bad!!!
I just spent the weekend in HELL trying out a new prescription of Belbuca 75 mcg. It's a film you put on the inside of your cheek every 12 hours. I tried to live with the pain all weekend but without 2 days of sleep, I finally asked my daughter to take me to the E.R. early Monday morning and they were kind enough to give me a Norco and a new Fentanyl 75 patch to put back on until I was able to get a hold of my Neurologist on Monday morning.
I had been on the 50 Fentanyl patch and we had just upgraded it to the 75 to be changed every 48 hours. My dr. prescribed the Belbuca months ago, but it fell between the cracks on getting the Insurance to approve. Anyway, it's amazing how you can go from the worst pain you can imagine to feeling ok in just a matter of hours with the correct medicine that works for your situation. I asked my dr. about just keeping me on the Fentanyl 75 patch every 48 hours and see how that goes, before trying the Belbuca again at a new dose of 450mcg. I did double the Belbuca to 2 films of 75mcg every 12 hours ( I know I shouldn't have done this, but with the extreme pain I had to do it. I did look up proper doses online prior to doing it.) and that did not help at all, so that's why he's looking at the 450mcg,
So currently, this is what I'm taking to get thru the day!!
Fentanyl 75MCG/HR Patch, every 48 hours.
Methocarbamol 500 MG tablet 4 times a day
Modafinil 200 MG tablet 1.5 tabs in the morning. This helps with lack of energy and being overly exhausted all the time.
The other thing that I recommend and I am the worse at abusing it is overdoing it!!!!! You just have to accept this disease at what it is and move on. I guess I was a workaholic and didn't realize it!!! Doing things all the time just gave me a sense of accomplishment and didn't look at it as work!!! And I know the term work means something different to everyone, but in my case, it always involves some type of physical labor.
So anyway, take it easy and try to do the best you can and if you feel like posting what medicines you use, good or bad it may be helpful to some of us. Out of all the doctors I have seen and spoken with, none of them have ever heard of our disease at all!!! Who would have thought we could be so LUCKY!!!!
Take care
