Well it's been a very rough year and summer so far!!! I have been working full time, average 48-52 hrs a week and have decided to go on disability! My work offers short term, 3 months and the I also have long term. Has anyone gone on or applied for disabilty insurance??

Personally, I didn't get a choice. maybe if I'd had a desk job they'd have let me get in the way a little longer. I just got signed off and unceremoniously dumped on the broken pile. I'd say if you can cut your hours to more manageable ones, keep on as long as you can. It's very hard to get them to let you back on the horse once your spurs hit the dirt.

I will keep you all posted. Im not sure about anyone else but I do have a case worker through the Muscular Dystrophy Association. When I was diagnosed I switched to a Neurologist that is associated with the MDA. She was willing to bring me on board as a patient, even though theres nothing she can do, this allows me to use and have all the benefits that the MDA offers. So when I spoke to her about disability she let me know that they would help with all the paperwork and for me not to worry. I will be seeing her in early December, so I will post how it goes. The main reason I decided to go on disability was that I was concerned I would end up getting terminated at some point. Every day that I went to work I felt like I had a big monkey on my back. I know that my work performance was defiantly effected by how I felt and the drugs I have been on. I'm a Service Mgr for a John Deere dealership and am responsible for 12 other employees. I didn't think it was fair as a manager that my employees had to deal with my health issues also. In any case will let you know how it goes.

Well, I have been on Short Term Disability since 1/2/2018. I can't believe how worn out Ive been feeling. Its like my body does not have enough energy to make everything work. It has been nice to take as many naps as needed thru out the day, but I thought by now, since I didn't have to deal with the stress from work I would be feeling better. I think the difference is now, feeling with the stress of being on disability!!! I have always been the guy that fixes everything and is always on the go, but having a hard time dealing with it. I have submitted my long term Disability paperwork to the Insurance Company that I had a policy with through my work, so hopefully that gets approved without and issues. I'm going to try the vitamins that Alan spoke of, so hopefully that will give me some good results. When I do try to do a small project I figure I can work for 15 minutes, and then have to rest for 45 minutes. I get severe pain lower back and my left arm is just about useless. The muscle above and below my elbow, including my elbow joint has decided to just hurt severely all the time! starting to wake me up at night with severe throbbing. The Morphine that I'm on doesn't even touch the pain. I see my pain Dr next month, so hopefully he can assist. I will let you know how the long Term Disability process goes. Hope to know next month. Planning on putting the house up for sale in May so we can move back towards family outside of Detroit so they can help out when needed. Take Care for now!!1 Jeff

For every inch of vertical rise, a foot of ramp is necessary. The slope of your property will also dictate the amount of ramping needed. If your property is sloped downhill, more ramping will be needed to create a steady incline and vice versa.
The advice given here is not hard and fast rule just a rule of thumb (Admin)

Re. the previous post, it's sad that this forum has become a target for spam, particularly such bad advice. I make ramps and hard and fast prescriptions for the slope, unrelated to the application, are nonsense. It depends on the length of the ramp, the vehicle, the person and the locality, whether public or private.

A wheelchair ramp may be the next best thing to sliced bread if you are dependent on a wheelchair, it is advisable to have an onsite inspection done before deciding on how steep or how long the slope should be There are general opinions and in some places local government rules or guidelines But there are many things that are taken into consideration and each case is different. It's also a good idea to have a few quotes for works and don't be afraid to ask for references and where you can see their work, speak to satisfied customers. Just because we are broken doesn't mean we have to lay down and be walked over.
Yes I do have ramps and they are all different.

There are many who visit this site who would be over the moon to be able to work 58 hours a week. Many are exhausted just getting out of bed so count your blessings and make the time you have available work for you. 168 hours in a week. 58 hours working 56 hours sleeping leaves you 54 hours to relax or enjoy a hobby This equates to 7.7 hours per day. Walking fishing or reading quietly in the garden should relax you.

Relaxing with a good book is a bit of a cliche but it can work. Currently reading "Vintage Science Fiction" edited by Peter Haining. 1999 but still available. It's the short stories that many great SF movies were based on, such as Total Recall, Star Trek and Dr Who. And no, this is not spam from the publisher.

Second suggestion - brewing cider at home. There's enormous room for experimentation and then of course you have to get friends to taste test it; this is the best part. Hard to believe that my initial problem was to get the alcohol level down to acceptable levels as for traditional cider. As my cider has improved, so have I improved. Could it be that home brew cider is the answer we have all been looking for? Not really, but it is fun.

Juker I think that you should try to try some natural product. I mean I love hemp cbd producing if I am really exhausted or feeling bad with my anxiety. Sometimes even it helps versus insomnia. But if you have an allergy or something like this you better need to visit the doctor first.

Hi All!
Just an update to pass along. I had applied for Social Security Benefits a little over a year ago and was approved for them on the first request. I never expected that!!! I was fortunate to have long term disability thru work so I was covered by that while waiting to hear from Social Security. I did apply all on my own without using a lawyer to do it. So not sure if anyone else has applied, but just thought it was good info to pass on. Any questions, please let me know thanks!! Jeff Wandyg

Hi Wan Great news that your claim has been excepted and even better news that you did it without the lawyers creaming the top off No reason they should get paid for your bad fortune and ill health. All you have to do now is get a measure of what you can do not what you want to do. Seems the active people suffer the most mentally and physically. Maybe sedentary people don't notice anything is wrong lol
