Hi Craig,
Forgive this late reply but..... "Happy New Year!". I
haven't been on the board for ages but other things have sort of taken
over but I felt I should share this with the group.
December 2011 I was diagnosed with Cancer of the Oesophagus. I had
about 7 endoscopies and the first result was cancer, then it wasn't then
it was etc! I had treatment which is usually given to people suffering
from Barrett's Oesophagus, namely Halo 360, which entails putting a wire
mesh tube down the throat, expanding it then turning up the heat to burn
away the inner lining of all the oesophagus. I had it done twice, the
second time quite a lot easier and less painful than the first.
Subsequent tests showed that I was clear of cancer but a recent
endoscopy has shown that it has returned. I got this news just before
Christmas again, that was two Christmases spent not very happily; not
that I am jumping for joy with Tam. I am waiting for another endoscopy
to determine the treatment needed.
Could you please urge all of the members of the group to get any
new pain or discomfort checked out. I know, I've had Tam since 1997,
that it is easy to blame every ache or twinge on Tam but that may not be
the case. I started with indigestion that I thought was brought on by
having meals at odd times, this is a symptom of my depression; not
eating for a day or two then binging. Because of the pain I have to
accept with Tam, this masked the pain I would have otherwise have felt.
My oesophagus was being burned by acid reflux in my lower oesophagus and
the regrowth was cancerous. After a few years it got to the stage that I
had very bad pain on swallowing and that is when I was referred for
examination.
I do not wish to alarm any of the board members, just for them to
be aware of any changes, however slight, and to get them checked out,
sooner rather than too late.
I hope that you and the other members are coping ok.
Best Wishes to you and your family.
Regards,
Mark Hollings.
