I am having some minor trouble with my hands. They don't like typing or firmly gripping a wrench. I wake up with aching fingers and this is odd because there are no muscles in the fingers. The backs of the hands also ache and there is a fair bit of grip strength lost. Anyway the cause is not necessarily TAM. I am going to see my physio about this and it would be helpful is others could tell me about their experience.

I also have trouble with my hands. Sometime they ache so much I want to stamp on them. I have found limited relief from ibruprofen and neoprene hand supports. I guessed it was the added warmth. As you are now plunging into the depths of your winter maybe a little extra heat on the affected area may give some relief. I don't recommend the stamping technique although at least for a short while you can reason why your hands hurt so much. Handular weakness is also a definite as I said re my visit to the geneticist; a little bit of a "Shiela" closed my spread fingers easier than shutting a matchbox and I was powerless to stop her. Think the brain must be a muscle to as I can't remember from one minute to the next, can't spell and have the concentration span of a something with a very short one.

Heat, good idea. I have tried thousands of hours of heat on other muscles and still have no idea whether it does any long term good. But short term it lessens the aching and generally feels better. Heating before stretching does seem to lessen possible damage. Every time I have a cup of tea I will heat my hands on it.
As to the brain being a muscle, I keep hearing news reports of studies finding evidence of the wider benefits of exercise for things like cognition, depression and more. At times like that I can hear Jock Fraser form Dad's Army saying, "We're doomed!" On the other hand Stephen Hawking is not getting a lot of exercise and has lived a long productive life.
